Summer reading 2006

Total Books Read : 21 (only 5 away from my goal of 2/week - and if you add in stuff like babysitters club, anastasia, children's books, and non-fiction which i don't read through but skip around to find what i need in - i surpassed it. heh)

Most of these books came from the library - some I had at the house from previous half price trips and two were birthday books ! The library book I want to go out and buy is Recipes For A Perfect Marriage. A book I would reccomend is Delta Belles. Now. These are my two most recent reads - so I maybe the fact that they are still stuck in my head has a lot to do with that.

i am considering zooming through the three (not yet read!) babysitters club books i grabbed at the library today too ! haha. but nah. i've done my goal plus a little. i'm good to go ;) and i didnt even count all the children's books i've read !

Library trip! Four books for mama. I read Sister Chicas - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0451217705/104-0133536-6905518?v=glance&n=283155 yeah i'm lazy tonight that I won't do the html for it ! I also read a zillion kids books from the Wild Animal Read It Again kit. heh. Okay like six or so. Some of them more than once.

As for Sister Chicas, it is a cute book. Good story of friendship, love, family. I kept wishing I knew more of the spanish words as I read, guess what? There is a glossary in back. Wish I had known that before finishing the book!!! I like how each characters POV was written by a different author, very cool.

I bought two new Lisa Wingate books for my birthday (via gift card someone sent me). My collection is complete until her next book comes out ;) I'll be reading them while we are away. And I plan to knit too. On a baby blanket and a baby sweater and a hat for my son and other random things. Yay.

I've read three more books. The Friendship Test by Elizabeth Noble and He's Got To Go by Sheila O'Flanagan and Bundle Of Joy by Ariella Papa

I tried to read The Bitch Posse, and I feel bad for this since she is a momwriter, but I really am not enjoying it at all. Can't get into it. I know lots of people like it though so it seems i'm on my own with that. It's going back not read all the way through - life is too short to waste it on books that you don't enjoy. There are so many others out there, after all!

If you pop in here, or if you've been following along, you may have noticed a few things about me and my reading habits.

1.I prefer light, fun, reads to the serious stuff.
2.I DO choose books by their cover, and I don't always complete a book - if it bores me I don't bother with it. Many more out there to entertain!
3. I read a lot. I will read all day then quickly do the things that need to be done around here, or vice-versa do the things very quickly so I can read. I like to read.

Finished another one Suburbanistas by pamela satran

It was a fun read. In addition to the three sisters thing, I like books where there is a strong strong friendship.

Now i'm going back to add links to some books I jotted down last week before returning them to the library! You may have noticed i'm trying to record these others as I finish.

I took the Suburbanistas Quiz and answered mostly B's - YOU'RE A SUBURBANITE, NOT A SUBURBANISTA. You're a suburban-dweller in the style of our parents, clueless about the new Suburbanista ways. Square, sure, but you're probably more relaxed than an entire yoga studio full of Suburbanistas.

I think I mentioned my books from the library? Anyway. I read one yesterday, again couldn't put it down. Perfect summer reading. Chick Lit. Red dress ink even :P

Hand-Me-Down

It was really good. I do like the whole three sisters thing though, and a boyfriend gone through them all is an interesting concept. You would think the ex would be off limits, right ?! I wouldn't know from personal experience though. One thing that bothered me was the author pushed the new new new thing ten slacked off on tat for awhile to where it wasn't done so obviously, then picked it back up. I would have preffered more consistancy in the writing.

I read another book this morning. Yes, the sink IS full of (neglected) dishes, why do you ask? But yeah the book. was good. couldn't put it down. It's one i've had for awhile, picked it up at half price books months ago. But I hadn't read it till this morning when I wanted to read SOMETHING while hanging out with the boys who were playing a game. It is really good, I love stories about women, families, women from different generations reconnecting are great - and thats basically what this is about. With a secondary plot of a romance. I'm already imagining in my head what happens with that next.

Family Resemblance pages = 250

This brings me to 8 books, and I'm halfway through with number nine. I got a stack of books from the library today. Fun.

i didnt read a lot for about a week (slowly a little here, a little there) then finished 3 books in 3 days.

and this is why i dont do reading things mostly. i am gonna read books anyway. i couldn't not read. i couldn't stay away from books. ever.

lady luck's map of vegas by barbara samuel < Loved how this one switched beetween viewpoints of mother and daughter. I loved how the mom telling her daughter about her life pre-kids was woven in too.

Coming Back To Me is the last book I read. It was 320 pages long. It was good, hard read, some crying involved.

I realized I was only reading the classics cause everyone else is so those are scratched off my list for now - cause thats a dumb reason to read em. Also cause my sister said to is a dumb reason. So anyway. No Rebecca, but I got Kat to read it, aren't you proud of me ?! HA

I am having a hard time getting into rebecca, so i am blogging about this situtation. Someone help me. How do i make myself read the darn book? My sister (a history major, might i add) loved it and really wants me to read it.

I haven't blogged about what books the kids and I have been reading. On Sunday I found myself at my parents without one of my library books, so I reread a babysitters club book. The boys have a stack from the library and A Friend For Dragon seems to be the favorite, it's been read more than once. And we've been working our way through Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, a chapter at a time. Sometimes I read, sometimes daddy reads, sometimes Jerbear reads.

Yeah i procrastinate, what is your point? Kat is going to read Rebecca with me, that should help.

I was looking at the SRP page and noticed a few things. First of all, people are adding up the pages they have read. Glad I saw that before returning these three books to the library, i'll go back and edit # of pages in my posts.

Next I am going to attempt to read Rebecca, which my sister lent to me and really wants me to read. This. Is a challenge.

Something blue was a quick & fun read. After reading reviews at amazon I realized it is the sequel to another, and I suppose it would have made sense to read them in order but oh well! I may or may not pick up the other book, part of me wants to know a bit more of the whys and whens of Rachel and Dex's relationship though ... !

I am now out of library books, and we aren't returning to the library until Friday (we went last Tuesday). There are plenty of other books around here though.

I finished book #2 this evening - What I Really Want To Do Is Direct. This one started slow and took quite a while too hook me - surprising since i've always read that you must hook the reader within the first three chapters. But once I got into it I was really into it. I was rooting for the main character, I had choosen the man I wanted her to end up with, and the job that seemed best for her. Very happy with the ending.

I'll be starting book number three tonight, most likely.

Week One

Kat just kicked off her summer reading program, and of course I had to join. My goal is to read a book a week. Simple, yes, but I do have four children! I'll read to them as well, but may not blog on every single children's book I read cause uhm, thats a lot.

So, to get started, last week I read No Place Like Home by Barbara Samuel. It was wonderful, I cried several times through the book. Stayed up way too late to finish it. Next time we visit the library I plan on looking for more of her books, this was just that good.
